The Importance of Accessibility

1 in 6 people globally are disabled, and in the UK, there are 16 million disabled people as of 2023. Disabled people represent a combined spending power of £274 billion a year, yet significant shortcomings in travel accessibility – across train stations and airports – create huge barriers for disabled and older people to both travel and spend. In aviation, the picture is particularly troubling, as evidenced by a recent CAA report that found the accessibility measures for half of the UK’s 16 busiest airports were deemed either ‘poor’ or ‘needing improvement’ by travellers.

Accessibility Audits

We are proud to be able to offer free accessibility audits to any airports wanting to improve their assistance and accessibility procedures and processes.

Our audits are carried out by a trained auditor and an individual with lived experience. At its core, our audits will offer a first-hand perspective of how passengers experience assistance at an airport, and is an excellent way to test procedures such as check-in, security and boarding. The end result of an audit will highlight any identified accessibility barriers, and also offer suggested improvements and solutions to any identified issues.

The Airport Accessibility Audit offers many benefits to both passengers and airports worldwide:

  • Support Airports in adopting established best practices and recommendations including those outlined in the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA).
  • Provide a safe and positive travel experience for passengers by enhancing access to airport facilities.
  • Unlock the potential spending power of disabled customers and their household which continues to increase and is currently estimated to be worth £274 billion per year to UK businesses.
  • Promote and highlight inclusive culture by showcasing the airport’s commitment to accessibility and inclusivity.
  • Avoid any potential litigation or negative PR by ensuring the airport is accessible and inclusive as possible.
